A Smart idea

At the moment I am working on 2 briefs, as well as making slow progress through ycn and D&AD competition stuff. Tomorrow is the Smart car and Ghd crits, I can see it being a loooong day, though crit days usually are! Can't complain though, as they are useful for getting feedback and bouncing ideas off one another.

For the Smart car ad, I thought the cars look like little toy cars and with that I'm going with the strategy: It's good for kids; well it will in the future because of the benefit the Smart car has on the environment, with its low emissions. Here's an influence to my ideas...

As for the Ghd brief, it's been a difficult brief for many reasons, such as no one knows what the straighteners we are advertising looks like. They are new, and yet to come out, Black and white gloss straighteners. After weeks of torture trying to come up with an idea that seems to actually say something and appeal to the Ghd buyer audience, I have come up with the strategy: naughty little secret. Can't wait for the crit to be over, but first there's a few hours playing on Photoshop to be done!

Carlsberg Wives

As I go to football matches quite regularly, I found this quite funny. The reaction is great and as well as being a youtube ad, it's also a guerilla ad in a way.

Show Reel

In uni today my tutor showed us a reel of Chris Cullingworth's work, which included some Aphex Twin music videos he was a part of making. Thought they were awesome and very unique. Be great to use his influence in my ad-making of the future because images like that are sure to be remembered.

After a bit of browsing

Here are a few ads I thought were quite good. I love ambient media and try to use it whenever creating an ad as I think they make more of an impact on people.

One down, two to go

It's a great relief when pieces of work and projects are completed. I finally finished one of my competition pieces today, I just have to get it prepared for delivery. Also, I realised I wasn't as crap at Photoshop as I lead myself to believe. I guess it's like riding a bike, once you know you never forget.

Since the excitement of getting my work finished and mounted, I've hit a block for the evening. I have TV ad scripts to be written for a critique on Thursday, as well as beginning the final stages of another brief, which I am no where near starting. I suppose if I browse websites for inspiration such as 'Ads of the World' and 'Youtube', ideas may come to me. For now, research just isn't helping. When I next post a blog, hopefully some scripts and ideas will have come out of hiding.

Photoshop

I've started with photoshop again. By this I mean all over again, as I forget how to use it easily unless I use it on a regular basis and the last time I did was in Summer, so months ago! I surprised myself by remembering quite a bit and at least the work I've done this evening look like ads. Getty images let me down slightly with my work when trying to find the right images, though to be honest, it was probably the way I worded what I was searching for. Found out a few more sites at uni to use so I shall have a nosy some time.

I think I need to have a really good play on photoshop one afternoon when my work load condenses a bit (yeah right! Only 14 weeks until my final portfolio is due in!). I tend to just copy and paste, play around with the transform tool then try and get the said copied image to blend into the background as though it belongs, such an amateur. Though, with practice I know I'll improve, I just don't have the patience. My strongest part of the course is copy writing and I'm getting better at art direction so I suppose I can but try to get better with the image work.

A new beginning

I've decided to start this blogging malarkey all over again due to inspiration from my Advertising course today. From now on, however random some articles may be, I'm going to keep a creative diary of my journey into the advertising world. At the moment I am currently designing ads for the MPA roses 'grow' competition brief, whilst doing other projects to go in my final portfolio in May. There's also some D&AD work I'm doing and ycn. The more the merrier (and blooming hard work) they say!
